Episode 8: Mid-life Crisis

Maria AllynMid-life crisis. Time for that Harley, the sports car, the younger love interest, or to get some work done on yourself. That’s the stereotype. And like most stereotypes it leaves a lot out.

Not everyone experiencing a mid-life crisis enjoy themselves. And I am not talking just about the protagonist, but the people around – the spouse, the kids, the siblings, the parents, the friends, you get the idea.

I am not going through a mid life crisis, at least not that I know of. But I do know people who are going through it now and I am sure so do you.

I recently spoke on this very topic with Maria Allyn and recorded our conversation for today’s episode. Maria is a mid-life crisis coach who spent her last 8 years helping women to get over this hurdle.

If you want to find out more about mid-life crisis, how it affects people and how to deal with it, you must listen to this week’s episode.

I hope you’ll find our discussion informative.

As always I welcome your feedback. Please post your comments online or drop me a line at julia@theuglydaughter.com. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Episode 7: She Believed She Could, So She Did

Chantelle BaxterSierra Leone. A former UK colony in West Africa ravaged by civil war. A place where a girl is more likely to be sexually assaulted than she is to go to high school. Let that sink in for a second…

A trip to Sierra Leone changed Chantelle Baxter‘s life. She came back to Australia looking for some volunteer work. And since no charity organisation would employ her she started her own. She was 23. That charity is OneGirl and their mission is to educate girls because little girls with dreams become women with vision.

In today’s episode I’m talking to Chantelle about her life-changing trip, her journey with OneGirl from their humble beginnings selling chocolate bars to raising millions of dollars, and about her plans for the future.

I am truly inspired by Chantelle. I hope she’ll inspire you, too.

She quit her job and literally turned rubbish into great treasures. She now helps and feeds hundreds of underprivileged people in PNG by teaching them how to weave purses, handbags, bracelets out of rubbish.

Episode 5: How to Be Comfortable in Your Own Skin

Shanti ZimmermannHere’s one of the most genuine and authentic human beings I have ever known. She’s real, honest and not afraid to show her true colours. Because of this she has been a victim of cyber bullying but she does not let that bother her.

I have great admiration for Shanti. She is courageous and fierce and she has no problem showing others what she’s made of.

If you are feeling lost, suffer from lack of self esteem, or have a hard time dealing with haters either in real life or online then you must listen to this episode.

Episode 4: How to deal with anxiety and change your state instantly

Sean 'TS' Redmond Sean ‘TS’ Redmond started his first coach training in 1997. He’s now a highly skilled and experienced business, leadership and team coach.

He was assessed in the top 1% in Australia for Abstract Reasoning (thinking outside the box if you like). He also gained an MBA in 2003 and has held executive positions in a number of different industries.

But that’s not the reason why I have Sean on the show.

I invited Sean for a talk because he has an inspiring story to share. Sean struggled with anxiety and depression for two decades. On several occasions he tried to take his own life. But after 20 years fighting the battle Sean beat the depression and turned his life around. Today he’s helping and teaching others how to defeat the depression in faster and more effective ways.
